Education
The curriculum used at Hatch Dance Theater has been developed, researched and copywrited by Germaine Mancke. She has taught classes using these ideas since 1995. Ms. Mancke plans to publish her teaching experiences. She is happy to share her work with Hatch.
Hatch classes are all designed to encourage “a time to do the teacher’s dancing and a time to do your own dancing…”. This helps young dancers to learn the techniques of basic dance skills, improvisation and choreography.
Hatch classes include both repeated and new exercises. This method provides the dancers with a sense of accomplishment and challenge. Weekly repetition, a mainstay in dance education, gives a chance to fine tune a skill and support physical development.
Hatch classes are all designed to be child centered and to dispel gender stereotypes that exist around children’s dance education. Hatch classes, studio design, music, projects and dress code encourage creative exploration for both boys and girls.
Hatch classes are grounded in Modern Dance Technique, most often the focus of colleges and universities and performed world-wide by professional dance companies.
Curriculum and Class Descriptions
Big & Little for 2 to 3 years
