HATCH is...a performance company, school and outreach program. We connect movement with the visual arts; storytelling, poetry and literature; and architecture. We explore site-specific choreography, improvisation and youth-centered ideas. Germaine Mancke is the force behind this innovative approach to children's dance, which taps into the rich learning possibilities present in kinesthetic, full-bodied experiences. Hatch is... a professional-minded youth performance company directed by Germaine Mancke. Company members are comfortable with improvisation and alternative performance spaces such as museum galleries, sculpture gardens, sidewalks and warehouses. Hatch the Company’s repertory includes “Shapes in 5 on 7” a dance based on the paintings of Kandinsky in which the performers use line, shape and color. “To Build” is an architectural dance based on the concepts of design, construction, foundation, negative space and deconstruction. “Hatch is…” a structured improvisation based on the Webster’s New Collegiate Dictionary definitions of the word Hatch, for which we are named. Hatch has performed with Headlong Dance Theater's CELL at 2006 Philadelphia Live Arts Festival and with Vox Ama Deau's Dido and Aeneas at the Kimmel Center. In May 2008, we will present Dance Stories in the Everglades a concert testing how performers can be more green in their presentation. Hatch will dance outdoors, using no electricity and wearing recycled costumes. Hatch is... a school that offers a full range of classes with an emphasis on teaching children how to take ownership of their creative process. Our curriculum is designed to appeal to both boys and girls.
